Congratulations to our Lund Open champions, M&A from helsinki, Anna Bessonova and Michael Schklowski and to Johan Båge (Stockholm) for being the best speaker in the tournament! Thank you to our grandfinal judges Sam Block (England), Lucinda David (Philippines) , Filip Bubenheimer(Norway), Elina Siivola(Helsinki) and Ben Gladnikoff(Stockholm)!

Finalists were: Lund B (Björn Wallentin & Hampus Holmer), SSE (Johan Båge & Gustaf Lundgren) and Don’t ask don’t tell (Tianyan Liu and Robert Service).

Thus concludes the Lund Open. Thanks to everyone who made this first tournament in Sweden possible! : )

Motions: 

Rounds

1. This House would give extra votes to poorer people.

2. This House would require the dubbing of all English language tv shows and movies in the local language.

3. This House believes governments of liberal democracies should vociferously condemn states that ban the burqa.

4. This House believes that the state should have monopoly over the retail sale of alcohol.

5. This House would ban the labelling of products as ‘fair trade’.

This House would media owners and journalists from running for political office.

– Electricity doesn’t work at your coupés, only available in the pingis-couch and the food-couch!

-Heating- you can adjust the temperature in your room, but only 1 and 0 (Number 2 doesn’t work).

-Entrance only through the main doors, the rest are fire escape doors!

-The sinks in your coupés are only for display!

Sam Block: Lund Open DCA!

With the generous support of the British Council, we are very proud to announce that the amazing Sam Block is coming to DCA at the Lund Open 2011! Sam is a Chief Adjudicator of this year’s World Universities Debate Championships in Manila, a Grand Final Judge at WUDC Cork 2009,CA for Newcastle Euros 2009, 2nd Top Speaker EUDC 2009,Top Speaker WUDC Thailand 2008, a DCA for Tallinn Euros 2008, 2nd Top Speaker WUDC 2007, Top Speaker EUDC 2007, Winner European Universities Debate Championships, the Oxford IV, the LSE Open, and International Mace. We are very grateful to the British Council, Sweden for their support!

The Library Debates

We’re very grateful to Folkbiblioteken for supporting public discourse in Lund. We’re holding debates in the Atriumgården in the Stadsbiblioteket this spring. The dates are 31/3, 13/4 and 13/5. The topic for the first debate is out. See you all there!
